It was designed to counter the threat of the Italian Navy and the German Kriegsmarine. The battleship had a displacement of about 48,000 tons and measured approximately 247.85 meters (813.1 feet) in length.  The Richelieu was decommissioned in 1968 and later scrapped. Despite the challenges faced during its early years, the battleship proved to be a resilient and powerful asset to the French Navy. It remains a symbol of French naval engineering prowess and has a lasting legacy as one of the major battleships of World War II.
