This is my try at a Caterham Super 7 as an alternate mannequin from set 42043. It’s my first MOC and there are various points – not least, selecting to limit myself to the 42043 set for this mannequin!
The Good:
Dimensions are about proper; not dangerous wanting.
Bi-Fold Bonnet “locks” open
Fake V6 Engine pushed by rear wheels
Famous “7” grille and iconic double wishbone suspension
Full PDF directions (although see caveats beneath)
The Bad:
Whilst the entrance wheels transfer and are Ackerman linked there is no such thing as a steering perform*
Wanted a De Dion tube for the rear suspension however not sufficient common joints! (Fell again to a pendular axle**)
No energy features
I could not get “call-outs” to work in my directions (presumably attributable to Linux software program variations)
When becoming a member of the rear axle to the principle chassis there are a few bushes that have to go onto the drive shaft.
No BOM within the directions however the LDR file and partlist right here needs to be spot on – in case you have the 42043 package you are positively OK.
Despite the shortcomings I had numerous enjoyable designing this mannequin and discovered so much within the course of. I used LDCad to create the mannequin for the directions and I can not reward that software program sufficient – if you have not tried it I’d strongly advocate giving it a go. The revisions to create the directions have been at instances an actual ache and I virtually gave up – therefore why they don’t seem to be 100% excellent. Does everybody make the “Light Bluish Grey” mistake first time spherical?
* There is not any steering rack within the 42043 package. I might have improvised one thing right here however area is cramped across the busy entrance suspension (maybe for a later replace).
** Pendular axle lifted straight from Paweł “Sariel” Kmieć’s wonderful e book: “The Unofficial LEGO Technic Builder’s Guide”
